San Saba County Sixth graders spent Wednesday afternoon, December 13, learning about local history at the San Saba Museum in Mill Pond Park. Seven students from Cherokee, eight from Richland Springs, and 63 from San Saba ISDs toured the interesting building full of San Saba County historical artifacts dating back many years. A total of 78 students completed the questionnaires regarding various areas of the building where docents and volunteers explained early customs of SS county schools, local businesses, old homes with furnishings like ice boxes, pie safes, hand driven washing machines, military uniforms from WW I and II, barbed wire and Texas brands, and handmade Christmas tree decorations. Eight groups of students cycled through each area of the museum learning interesting facts while making history and old SS County life more meaningful.
Docents and volunteers included: Pastor Judy from SS Methodist Church, Scott Snyder, Lynn Blankenship, Rosemary Cox, Dixie Guillory, Robyn Dial, Jerry Blankenship, Cindy Sloan, Anne Vincent, Pat Johnson, Cindy Collelo, Donna Hill, Penny Walker, Aileen Roberts, Carl Carter, Jeff Carlson, Amy Stencil, Stephanie Huff, and Trish Warren.
Teachers were: from Richland Springs: DeeAnna Farris and Mindy Womack; from Cherokee: Karena Prew; and from San Saba: Briana Spence, Sharyl Davis, David Bourke, Penny Walker, Tasha Alcourn, and Monica Shahan.
