San Saba Blood Drive

Due to September 11th, 2001, and the many requests of ‘what can we do?’ on January 23, 2002, San Saba County and (then) Scott & White brought the FIRST blood drive to San Saba.

It began in honor of Annette Hooten who was the San Saba ISD Registrar at the time and was a leukemia patient. And on January 17, 2023, San Saba County and Baylor Scott & White held their EIGHTY-FIFTH blood drive!

Over the years, people/donors come and go. But at least FOUR times a year, the blood drive continues, and we still make a difference.

The first one was probably our largest one, as a lot of the Hooten family came from all over the state; we had 68 seen with 12 deferrals. And we sent back 56 units!

Now, on this last blood drive, registration is preferred with walk-ins still appreciated and we had 46 registered, 6 deferrals, 3 no shows and 1 no donation adding up to 36 units returned to the hospital!!!

Generally, the blood drives are held in January, April, July and October/November. The dates can be found here in the paper inside the Community Calendar! They have been held at different spots around but currently are at the First Baptist Church at 208 W. Wallace in San Saba from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m.

A photo ID is required to donate. And since Registration is now preferred, you can go to BSWBlood.com and sign up and be part of something very important in our county.

Come check us out on Tuesday, April 18th.
