DATE CHANGE: The back-to-school bash has been moved to Monday, August 28th, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday Church will start on Wednesday the 30th immediately after school. This event is open to students from Pre-K to fifth grade plus their family. I apologize for the change, but there were conflicts for the second. Please mark your calendars. If you need a backpack before school starts, please let Miss Debbie, Mrs. Wyatt, or me know.

Since our lovely rain forced the postponement of the fireworks display, the new date was July 4th itself. For over two hours, the onlookers were treated to a tremendous display that lit up the skies and surrounding area. One of the delightful things about our local display is that you can get close to the happenings. Mother Nature cooperated, and the 2023 Stars and Stripes celebration came to an end.

I was unable to get photographs of all the events, but hopefully I will be able to post pictures of the washer toss, horseshoes, cornhole, forty-two and the ever-popular hog sacking events. I wish there was room for everyone’s photos, but please check out the Howlers Facebook page for photos of all winners.

I noticed that several out-oftown guests and locals made their way to Skelton’s, RS BoHo Unique, Chrissy’s Plants and the Coyote Store. Our local businesses need events that draw crowds to help with their bottom lines. Even Lord’s Farms had a pickup in sales for the day. Please remember to support all our local businesses. Remember how horrible it was when Lowe’s in San Saba was out of business. Please don’t let that happen to our local stores.

Russ and I made a rainwashed trip to Houston and back on Thursday. I wish we could have had at least one hour of downpour we faced for three hours. Russ had to drive behind the big trucks so that he could see where the lane lines were. It has been some time since he had to drive in heavy traffic, and blinding rain did not help the driver. In all fairness, some of the drivers did slow down a little, but changing lanes at speed in that kind of rain was not safe.

It was a 12-hour trip, but we accomplished our task, and I will be taking a computer part to my son in Costa Rica on Monday. Yes, I’m headed to foreign parts just in time to miss the next heat wave. I promise I will miss my Richland folks, but the beach and family are calling me. By the way, Russ is an amazing driver.

I was rocking along with my latest quilt, much to my delight, until I pinned it on the wall. Imagine my horror seeing one entire row was upside down and two other rows were crooked. So, now I must pick out three rows of work. I am not a happy person. Quilting is very much like carpentering. If you are off a fraction at the start, by the end you are sadly offline. I detest taking things apart because of errors.

I noticed some of the teachers are putting up a supply list on Amazon for their class. What a great idea. I encourage my readers to check Facebook to see which teachers have lists and help them out. After 25 plus years teaching, I can tell you teachers spend many dollars making their teaching experience fun for the kids. Don’t forget, RSISD is supplying the kids with classroom materials again this year, and the Back to School Bash on the 28th of August will have drawstring bags for all the kids. If you want a backpack before school starts, please let us know. Hopefully the Manns and the Ashworths will be back from their impressive European tour. I am a little jealous of their beautiful vacation.

Please keep the Benner family and the Waylon Perry family in your prayers as they deal with the loss of a loved one. Vicki Moreno, Jeremy Young, and several others are fighting cancer battles. Our prayers are with all of them and their families. I’m flying to Costa Rica on Monday and pray for a safe passage. Only three short weeks before school starts. August 10th will come far too quickly. Enjoy your time together everyone. Put the next Men’s Breakfast on your calendar. Please be sure you are welcome no matter if you come to church or not. This is open to all men and boys in the community. Have a blessed week everyone. Pray for our country, our borders and our precious troops and their families.
