The Richland Springs Report

I’m still not happy with daylight savings time. I don’t like going to bed when my body thinks it’s too early, and it doesn’t want to wake up in the dark. Perhaps I will adjust by next week. They keep saying we will stay here in Texas, but it never gets done. I don’t care which way we go, just go and don’t change.

The mesquites didn’t lie. Although the temperature dropped last week, there was no freeze. Some of my potato leaves were singed, but perhaps the rest will grow big potatoes. I covered the tomatoes, and they look great. It’s spring in Central Texas.

Saturday was the Beautification Committee’s pancake breakfast fundraiser. Paige Moats said the participation was not as heavy as usual, but First Baptist changed it’s fifth Sunday meal, so that cut down on people attending. I went even though I was attending the luncheon. You can’t pass up Frank Pearce’s homemade pancakes and sausage. The Beautification Committee does a wonderful job of keeping our town beautifully decorated.

The workday at the bank on the 23rd was extremely successful. Students from National Honor Society and some athletes assisted in cleaning up areas in the old bank building. The Preservation Society is grateful for their help in advancing the restoration of the old bank. Volunteers worked from 9:00 -12:00 on Monday, then went to the community center where they were treated to lunch provided by Mrs. Paige Moats.

This Friday, Richland Springs will host the UILAcademic competition. Elementary students will release early, and our school will be full of visiting students and teachers. Ladies from several churches in the area will be providing food for the hospitality room. Please pray for our student competitors.

Our One Act Play, The Librarian, is advancing to the next level of competition. There will be a special meal at noon on the 29th. The meal is by donation only and will help cover costs of traveling to the next competition. Please put the date on your calendar. I’m told our student actors are doing an exceptional job. Come support our students. They will compete at Marble Falls on March 31st for the Bi-District title.

The high school track team will be attending a track meet on March 26th in Goldthwaite. Our students are busy, but it would be wise to remember that STAAR testing starts in mid-April. Please keep your students in school and encourage them to take time to study. Remember, every day they are absent costs the school money. Help us keep our money; we don’t want to give it back to Austin.

Please pray for the conflict in Iran, for our Congress, especially the Senate, and for our President. We’re grateful for the rain we received last week, but we need a heavy three-inch rain to keep crops and trees alive. Pray for the sick in the community and for our school. God bless America. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families.
