The Richland Springs Report

And just like that. I’m one year older. The kids and I at school were talking about dates; they had a difficult time equating my dates with reality. They couldn’t believe the year I graduated from high school, and even my teaching years were beyond their grasp. It’s a strange feeling to know the reality the kids think is ancient history. When you look back at your life have you made a difference. I hope I have.

The first playoff game is in the books. In the past Calvert has given the Coyotes a run for their money, but Thursday night was not one of those games. It was 50 to 0 at the end of the first quarter. The Coyote coaches let everyone play, ran the clock as much as possible, and I’m told, even kept the clock running during time outs. At the end of the half, the score was 62-0. I’m delighted for our Coyotes who will play Zephyr right in our backyard this Friday. Yes, we are going to play in San Saba. Apparently, Zephyr turned down several locations and opted for this one. I won’t have far to drive. Okay all you Coyote fans, get your noisemakers and voices ready for the big game. Good luck to our awesome coaches and players.

The First Baptist Kids’Church filled Samaritan’s Purse Christmas shoeboxes on Wednesday. I can’t explain the pleasure the sound of children deciding what will go in their box gives me. They check all the items out and then “fill” their box. We have such beautiful and kind children. Thank you to Chris and Kristi Perry, for heading this program.

The Richland Springs Preservation Society is canceling their December luncheon so that the junior class can have a fund raiser on the same date, Dec. 7th. It was decided to postpone the luncheon until January. A new date will be posted by Dee Crump in the RSPS column.

by the list of vendors that Paige Moats and the Beautification Committee have posted for the upcoming Christmas Market. I know I am. There will be so many vendors with unique and useful as well as delicious gifts. I intend to get all my Christmas shopping done in one day. The beauty of it is that we do it locally. Thank you, Paige, for giving our community this delightful opportunity. Ring the bells it's Christmas time.

The Phillips family said their final goodbyes to Shane on Saturday. Bro. Barry Fikes performed the memorial service. It was a touching and heartwarming ceremony that gave the family a last glimpse into the kind man who was Danny Shane Phillips. Next week we will have a graveside service to celebrate my eldest daughter, Tracy. On the positive side, Valerie Barker is recovering well from her procedures and Sally Photo by Debbie Phelan

School will be out on the 21st until December 2nd. That will be the last hectic rush to the end of the semester, semester exams and the long Christmas break. Please remember to keep your child in school and encourage them to excel. UIL academic contests for elementary and junior high will be held here in Richland Springs. Now that the government is back at work, Carol will be organizing the Youth Fair entries. As soon as I get dates and times, I will let you know. This is a busy time of the year. We just need to stay focused to succeed.

Our prayer list remains steadfast. Please pray for world peace, for our country, for our congress and President, for all the men and women who work to keep us safe, and for the rain we need so desperately. Most of all we pray for our precious troops ad their families.

The kids from kindergarten to 6th grade filled 27 boxes to be sent to Samaritan's Purse on Wednesday.
