Many prayers were answered Sunday as the rain poured down from the heavens. It came with a magnificent light show. It's been quite some time since our last thunder and lightening event. Several homes in Richland lost power. We had a momentary flicker, but the lights stayed steady. I haven't been down to the old bank building, but I'm afraid that it was hard enough to cause that silly old roof to leak onto my displays. The city may have a few dirt road ruts to smooth out again. Nevertheless, it was a delightful rain.
This week is Homecoming week for Richland. The Friday game will be against Lohn. Since the date was changed, there will be a Fifth Quarter at the First Baptist Church after the game. The Lohn players and cheerleaders have been invited to attend. Food will be provided by the members of the Baptist Church and Shiloh Church.
Speaking of Shiloh, Brother Bill Slaymaker was taken to the emergency room over the weekend. He was diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm. Apparently, he was also having pancreas issues. The good news is he is doing better, and no surgery will be needed. I'm sure that is an answer to prayers from all local church members.
Congratulations to Rylie Eckert on her sixth place state win in cross country. She's an amazingly dedicated athlete as well as a top rate student. If all students had her work ethic, our county would be first in state. Congratulations to the varsity football on their win over Rochelle last Friday. They will now start the playoff road.
Congratulations to the volleyball teams as district champions. Thank you to all of our athletes who work diligently to succeed in academics and athletics.
The free hot dog and candy Halloween feast at Chrissy's Plants was well attended. Considering Thursday night was a football game, followed by the haunted house, and local trick or treating, it was a pleasant surprise to have over 50 people come by for the fun. The same can be said for the local folks who attended the anniversary celebration at the RS BoHo Unique Saturday. I've said it many times before, please shop locally. Without local community members patronizing our local businesses, they cannot survive.
The Men's Prayer Breakfast will be this Saturday. All area men and their sons are welcome to attend.
The quilting ladies took another trip to Mason to fabric shop. It's always a good excuse to eat out together. They will be headed to the Fredericksburg area to attend a retreat two weeks from today.
The Perry family will be having a Thanksgiving dinner for the community. All community members are invited to attend this free meal. There are flyers out at the hardware store, but come to the community center around noon. This is a gift from the extended Perry family.
Don't forget the Veteran's Luncheon November 8th, at the school. The meal is free to all veterans.
The school Thanksgiving luncheon is on November 14th. Please come and make both of these events extra special.
There is a national prayer event on Monday night at 6:00 p.m. No matter your party or candidate, our country needs prayer for unity. It seems as if we are being torn apart by negativity and angry rhetoric. This is a great country with an amazing governing system. A group of dedicated men prayerfully designed a system that is unique in the world. It has tremendous potential to right many wrongs. Please get out and vote, and no matter who wins, join together to bring about peace in our country. God bless America.
Please pray for our sick, our shut-ins, our elections, our government, our ailing president, and our new president to be. Please continue to pray for the South Carolina, Florida, and Tennessee families that have been devastated by the hurricanes and floods. Thank you, Samaritan's Purse, for your continued efforts in those areas.
Don't forget those Christmas Shoeboxes are especially important this year. Most of all, pray for our precious men and women in harm's way.
Protect our soldiers, Lord.
