The Richland Springs Report

What a marvelous week we have had here in Texas.

We’ve had two celestial events. Thanks to a super solar flare, we were able to watch the Aurora Borealis dance across our skies. Then Sunday night, just after sunset, a comet made its way across our western sky. I missed the Northern Lights, but friends showed me their photos of the night sky. I did not miss the comet. I patiently waited and watched toward Venus and the horizon, and there it was. I’m a happy person to have been blest to see God’s amazing heavens.

The Coyote athletes in football and volleyball prevailed again this week. Please lift Hutton Rogers in prayer. It was thought that he had broken his leg Friday night at the game, but fortunately x-rays showed no break. Football is a popular Texas sport, but it is hard on young bodies. Our athletes are working their way toward state titles. Support you teams.

Don’t forget the Fall Festival, the last week of October. For parents concerned with grades, progress reports will be out this week. Last week, most teachers gave benchmark tests to see how our students were aligning with state standards. There is no guarantee that a student will succeed on a STAAR test, but I an almost guarantee that if they don’t come to school, the results will not be good.

It’s not a matter of catching up on work, which is reasonably easy. It’s the teaching time that is missed and can’t be made up. Please keep your student in school.

Chrissy’s Plants was visited by a group from San Saba. They should be posting pictures of their handicapped charges. An enjoyable time was had by all involved. I noticed that Lord’s Farms has moved their display over a little. It is very eye-catching. The Shoppe 1910 and RS BoHo Unique have added colorful lights to enhance their October décor. The Beautification Committee has added gorgeous white flowers to the flowerpots around town in contrast to their red bougainvillea. We may be little, but we are cute.

First Baptist has started their Operation Christmas Child boxes. Church and community members can donate money, bring filled boxes, or bring items to add to existing boxes. There is a donation box in the foyer of the church if you need some items to put in your own box. Samaritan’s Purse has asked that no toothpaste or soap be added to the boxes. Apparently, some countries have been charging higher taxes because soap is considered a luxury item. All items need to be at the church by the middle of November. I suspect that many boxes will go to our Southeastern states who have suffered mightily from Helene and Milton. If you don’t like shopping, you can just donate funds for other people to use.

The Men’s Prayer Breakfast had a record 32 people who attended last Saturday. A few fathers brought their sons with them. All community members are welcome to attend. The Ladies’ Quilting and Bible study is deep into the book of the year. I Surrender All by Phyllis Shirrer. It’s a wonderfully thoughtprovoking book. You don’t have to be a quilter to attend. They are a fun group of ladies who would love to have you visit.

The JLT fund-rising event had a great turn-out for the fall fund raiser. This group, honoring Joey Tharp, gives out multiple scholarships each year to deserving seniors. The next fundraising event will be the Howler’s Ball in the brand-new Mann Event Center. Tickets to the ball are still available. Please see Candy Mann, Sherry Ashworth, or anyone else on the committee.

There are so many prayers needed. Mondo Garcia’s dad is in serious health. Johnny Reeves is continuing his aggressive cancer treatments. We have a few others who are unnamed who are suffering through cancer.

Sherri Jenkins’s mother has gone to be with the Lord. The Perry family needs continued prayers. The funeral for Lance was a testimony to his influence in the community. Our hurricane states need prayer for recovery. Our elections are near, and everyone believes it will be a pivotal election for our country. Our area and state need rain, and our world is in turmoil. Please pray for Israel and peace. Most of all pray for our precious troops and their families. God bless you all, and don’t forget to vote.
