The Richland Springs Report

What a wonderful task we’re all going to be faced with completing… mowing our grass. After five inches of downpour, local grasses will burst into new life. Lawn mowing businesses will gain new revenue, and our fields will look lush again. The recent cooler weather, caused by the rain, has resulted in a flurry of activity from the hummers. My feeders are like bee hives with a constant flow of avid hummingbirds. I guess they will be heading south shortly. The Hummingbird Society recommends keeping your feeders up two weeks after your last hummingbird sighting. I usually look for the Ruby Throated Hummers. They are the first I see in the Spring heading north and the first I see heading south in the fall. It looks like we may be heading into our very puny fall season. I do love our short fall weather.

The Men’s Prayer Breakfast will be this coming Saturday. This breakfast is open to all men and boys in the area. The men will meet at 7:00 a.m. for a delicious breakfast and finish with a short message. This is a great fellowship men. Come over to the Tabernacle and spend some time with the men of the area. Everyone is welcome.

Ladies Quilting and Bible Study starts on Tuesday. You don’t have to quilt; you can just come and share the book of the year. Our exceptional group leader is Kay McKee. You can’t go wrong with someone this gifted. We are a fun gaggle of ladies.

This is week five of the school year. If your student isn’t up to date with their work, now is the time to fix any issues.

If they are an athlete, failing grades will impact their game time. Volleyball, cross country, and football keep our students busy, but they cannot fall behind in their schoolwork.

Last week, the junior high girls won two out of three of their games at the Wall Tournament. Our Coyote varsity boys defeated St. Joseph’s Catholic school 62-15 by halftime. The Fifth Quarter following the win was a happy event. Shiloh and First Baptist enjoy providing the boys and the community with a celebration meal.

Junior high volleyball girls are headed to San Angelo Christian on Monday. Tuesday varsity girls will play Ballinger. Friday, junior high and high school boys will be in Nueces Canyon while junior varsity and varsity girls will have a home game against San Angelo Saints. Saturday, our Cross-Country team will be competing in Corpus Christi. Mrs. Farris will be taking a group of students to tour San Angelo college on Wednesday. That means we have students going in all direction. Please, parents, make sure they are getting their work turned in before the 19th.

All classes are preparing their booths for the Fall Festival.

I can’t stress strongly enough the need to get out and vote this election period. This is not just about two unpopular candidates. Please take the time to review both party platforms and vote for the platform that suits your ideals, not the man or woman.

Voting is a wonderful privilege. Please pray for our elections, our ailing President, both major candidates and peace amid world turmoil.

Our nation is faced with floods and fires and needs prayers and assistance. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families. Have a wonderful week.
