The Richland Springs Report

They claim that time flies by more rapidly as you age; I totally agree. Four months ago, I made plans to go to Costa Rica to spend time with my two sisters. As I typed this column, I noted the date was January 18th. That means my flight is less than a month away. That’s amazing and exciting at the same time. I haven’t seen my sisters in almost three years, and I can’t wait to reconnect with them. Covid has put many roadblocks in relationships. At least we are all well and able to travel. That is not the case in many other families.

Basketball is in full swing. The boys are a few weeks behind as far as training is concerned but reaching their peak rapidly. The girls are excelling in their games and pulling in the accolades that go with winning. Ryleigh Bryant was in the paper last week for her outstanding goal scoring. Her teammates, Reagan Wright, Calyn Kubin, and Lili Appleton helped with the win against Rochelle for their first district game. Top scorers for the boys game against Rochelle were Connor Womack, Jayden Sutherland, and Hutton Rogers. Both teams started the season off with a solid win. Good luck to all athletes.

The focus in education these days is on school safety. Richland has an amazing new security system. Mr. Womack has instigated a camera and push button system. It has a beneficial side effect for our school secretary Candy Mann because the door can be released from her desk.

In the past, Mrs. Mask and Mrs. Danford had to get up from their desk and walk to the door to let students into the building. It is especially useful for the outlying buildings. So, forget the good old days, go to the office, and sign in to gain entry. For someone like me, it’s a little annoying, but our students are so much safer. That is worth a little discomfort.

I’m going to attend the Painting evening at the Community Center on the 28th of January at 2:00 p.m. It’s a fun event, all materials needed are supplied except for the BYOB. If you want to attend, please contact Mindy Womack at the school.

This morning at church, we had three lists for prayer requests. One list was entirely for folks in the area fighting cancer. Some are just starting their fearsome journey; others are facing difficult choices.

Modo Garcia is home from the hospital after his heart scare. He is better but has difficult changes to make in his lifestyle. I know from personal experiences how difficult some choices are. Please keep your friends, neighbors, and family in your prayers as they face various health crises.

Remember to pray for our community, for rain, for our country, and the war in Ukraine. Our border and border patrol agents are under siege and need help and prayers. Please, God, protect our police officers and emergency personnel. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families. Have a great week, everyone.
