NHS Wraps Up a Busy Fall Semester

As the semester comes to a close, the National Honor Society would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. With the end of the fall semester, NHS has much to celebrate after a very active first half of the school year.

The 2025–26 NHS officer team includes President Caitlin Mays, Vice President Jefferson Stencil, Secretary Libby Mays, Treasurer Zylie Hunt, and Public Relations Officer Sabrinia Dozier. This semester, NHS continued several long-standing traditions while also introducing new initiatives focused on service, mentorship, and community involvement.

NHS hosted its annual pumpkin contest and turkey food drive, with Sabrinia Dozier leading the pumpkin committee and Libby Mays leading the turkey committee. Students across all campuses participated in pumpkin painting, with winners recognized at the high school, middle school, and elementary school levels. NHS thanks everyone who took part and helped make the event a success.

The turkey food drive col-lected canned goods that were delivered to the Ministerial Alliance at The Father’s House and First Baptist Church, where they will be distributed to families in our community. Teachers competed by collecting cans from students, earning points for their classes. At the high school, Mrs. Murray placed first, followed by Coach Walts and Mrs. Arnoult. At the elementary school, Mrs. Hinkel earned first place, with Mrs. Broyles and Mrs. Mejia following. Both winning teachers received frozen turkeys, and NHS members announced the winners during the elementary school Christmas assembly.

The Choose Kindness Committee, led by Treasurer Zylie Hunt, continued to recognize students who demonstrate outstanding character both at school and in the community. September’s recipient was freshman Dakota Uli, and November’s recipient was sophomore Noel Vega. NHS congratulates both students for exemplifying kindness and leadership.

This year, NHS also introduced two new committees.

The Mentoring Committee, led by President Caitlin Mays, focused on promoting learning and reading by visiting the elementary school on Fridays to read to students. The Community Service Committee, led by Vice President Jefferson Stencil, expanded volunteer opportunities and strengthened community partnerships. Members assisted the Rotary Club by placing football and American flags throughout town and worked on school beautification projects. Plans for the spring include a chapter-wide service project and participation in Meals on Wheels.

In early fall, NHS sold Tshirts featuring a design created by Public Relations Officer Sabrinia Dozier. Proceeds from the shirt sales and pumpkin contest entry fees will contribute to a senior scholarship awarded in the spring.

NHS would like to thank chapter sponsors Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Arnoult for their continued support, as well as the local community for supporting the National Honor Society.
