The year is already in full swing here at Cherokee ISD. Last week, we had Meet the Teacher and Meet the Indians. Our junior high and high school cheerleaders performed as well as our little Indian cheerleaders that attended cheer camp. The night ended with a hamburger supper benefitting the booster club. There was a raffle for a basket of Indian fan gear, and Sue Rhoades was our winner. Congratulations, Miss Sue!

School officially started on Monday, and with a new year comes changes. We have some staff members who have changed positions. Rick Newman will now be our Ag teacher. Shandi Hall is our new Food Service Director. Laura Weeks moved from 1st grade to 2nd grade. We are also welcoming new staff members. Richard New will be in our Ag department. Ashley Arzt will be doing some custodial duties. Lee Snoddy is helping in our cafeteria. Diana Kimberly is teaching high school English. Brad Bowden is doing some coaching and teaching high school history. Jennifer Bowden is teaching first grade. We are happy about all these changes and we warmly welcome our new staff!

Sports are also underway with football and cross country practices already in progress. The varsity football team will have a scrimmage this Friday in May. High School cross country will have their first meet on the 18th.

Parents, your involvement is critical to your student’s success, so please make every effort to talk about school with them. Know what they are learning about, who their friends are, and how athletics is going. Get to know their teachers. Go to school events. It is so important for the school and parents to be a partnership! Thank you for all you already do! It’s going to be a great year.
