Last Thursday was a fun filled day at Cherokee ISD. After school, we held our annual Open House with what seemed to me like record attendance. Teachers prepared so many wonderful interactive tasks for students and teachers to participate in and found ways to showcase student work. It was all smiles around here!

This event was followed by a fundraiser meal benefitting the junior class. They raised $1,200 to be used toward prom thanks to all of our generous community members. Thanks also to everyone who prepared and served the meal. It was delicious!

The next item on the agenda was the junior high football game. The junior high Indians played a great game defeating Hill Country with a score of 41-0. Preston Hanley helped his team out with several touchdowns. Uriah Valdez had an interception and a touchdown. Parker Hanley made a fumble recovery. Ricky Jones and Weston Woolsey scored a touchdown each. Jaxon White and Franky Penney each made an interception. All members of this team contributed to the win. Congratulations, boys!

During the junior high game, the crowd was delighted by mini cheer camp participants. Children from pre-K age through 5th grade were invited to cheer camp where they learned some cheers and a dance from the varsity cheerleaders. They ran through the tunnel before the game and then performed during halftime. They had so much fun and were very entertaining!

Next week, progress reports will go home. Upper elementary students will be taking benchmarks. Fifth grade will travel to San Saba for Farm Safety Day. We will have an elementary fire presentation and much more! October is always a busy month, so be sure to keep up with the “goings-on.” The PTC sponsored Fall Festival is coming up on October 29th. If you are interested in running a booth, let Kari Owen know at kowen@cherokeeisd.net.

Have a great week!
