I recall the morning I had to make a trip by myself. I took two of my favorite Christian tapes and some memory verses in the truck and headed out.
It was heavily overcast that morning with a very thick low ceiling cloud cover. When I get the chance to get by myself, it gives me time to think.
Like ABOUT my wonderful wife and how fortunate I am. I also think about my children and especially about my relationship to God.
Shortly the overcast started breaking up a little and the sun broke through a small hole in the clouds, it looked like a giant flashlight beam hitting the earth. Then I saw the sun shining through in many places and those sunbeams were all different sizes.
That sight reminded me of something about our degenerating, sin everywhere, lost, dark world prevalent with evil.
1 Corinthians 1:18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
Ephesians 5:5 For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
There were many places the sun couldn’t get through.
John 3:19-20 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed.
But there were also a few places that it did.
John 3:21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.
Seeing the different sizes of the sunbeams breaking through in some places it could and some places it couldn't, reminded about how some Christians barely let God into their lives (1 Corinthians 3:1-3 But I, brothers, could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. 2 I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it. And even now you are not yet ready, 3 for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way?) while others open their hearts and lives very much to Him.
One question is - how big is the sunbeam (God) in our life?
Psalms 89:15-18 Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O Lord, in the light of your face, 16 who exult in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted. 17 For you are the glory of their strength; by your favor our horn is exalted. 18 For our shield belongs to the Lord, our king to the Holy One of Israel.
See you in church next Sunday.
