Hello, sweet San Saba friends, and how are you this week? I have thought about you so often as I have journeyed through my days, rebelled against the perceived wrongs in my life, talked to my neighbors, danced in the sun and the rain, and been busy being a dachshund.
On one of our late evening walks, my servant and I turned to head back home, when in a small clearing there stood a small doe grazing. She stopped to stare at us, and we to gaze upon her. For several minutes we three stood, eyes and hearts locked in silent recognition and appreciation, before she stepped silently on to continue feeding, and my servant and I headed toward home. My servant looked down at me and said, “Lenny, isn’t it lovely how sometimes we get to live an entire day in just a few magic moments!” Yep, our hearts were full of wonder!
I should be used to my servant saying outrageous things; however, when she prepared turkey loins, took them out of the oven and I had to dachshund body block her from leaving the kitchen when I thought she was getting a knife to give me a taste, she uttered the dumbest words I have ever heard…“they need to rest.” Oh dear gosh, I think the woman was pulling all four of my dachshund legs because the things were dead, not sleepy when she put them in the oven to cook!! I ran after her and pounced on her when she sat on the couch, and if you guys heard what sounded like alpacas screaming, it was me! For those of you have not been around dachshunds much, you can brush our teeth five times a day, and our breath will still make you think we just ate two-week-old road kill! Yep, if we get in your face and complain, we pretty much get exactly what we request! The turkey loin was delicious!!
My servant has so many jobs; she is the only one who takes care of dad and has to do everything for him, takes care of me and does the same, cleans the house, washes the clothes, gets the mail, pays the bills, cooks and buys the food. Yep, she kind of stays really busy, so I have to get demanding sometimes. I get right in her face, plop in her lap, roll over on my back, nudge her hand and look up at her as if to say, “well duh. Time for my belly rub and massage!” She usually ends laughing, relaxes as much me and obliges! Life is full of things we must do, but the best thing we can ever do is show and share our love and time with those who bring us joy and happiness! We sure hope each of you take time each day to appreciate those who make you smile, give your heart reason to light with joy! We sure are loving you from our home here in Houston!
