J.V. Dillos defeat Tolar Rattlers 42-26 to win the District Championship

San Saba’s J.V. Dillos exploded to a 42-26 victory over the Tolar J.V. Rattlers at Rogan Field last Thursday evening. The Dillos capped of an undefeated season with 9 wins no losses and one tie. Tolar had previously defeated De Leon. De Leon Tied San Saba earlier in the season. Everyone in the district had at least one loss except San Saba. The young Dillos played one of their best games of the season, and the result was a championship. We are very proud of their hard work and dedication. This team is mostly freshmen, and they defeated a number of teams made up of freshmen, sophomores and juniors.

Tolar kicked to San Saba to start the game. Runs by Graden Lebow, Luke Thorpe, and Jason The San Saba County Chamber of Commerce announced the winners of the Business Fall Decorating Contest for 2023. The Winners were: 1st Place, Capital Farm Credit; 2nd Place, San Saba Everett moved the ball down the field. Lebow ran for 12, Thorpe 8, Everett 10, Lebow 15, Thorpe 12. Thorpe scored from five out, and Brandon Gonzalez kicked the extra point. 7-0 Dillos.

San Saba kicked to Tolar. The Rattlers ran several running plays before scoring on a pass play. The P.A.T. try failed. 7-6 Dillos.

Tolar kicked to San Saba. Lebow ran for 12, Everett 10, Lebow 5, Thorpe 5, Lebow added 22, Thorpe 4, Lebow 4, Everett 3, before Thorpe scored from four yards. Gonzalez kick was good. 14-6 Dillos. The drives were the result of hard running by the backs and good blocking by Kaylub Roberts, Preston Gray, Jayden Aguirre, Jack Stewardson, Carson Murphy, Jose Vega, Omar Landeros, Martin Macias, News & Star; and 3rd Place, The Open Door.

San Saba kicked to Tolar to begin the second quarter. The Dillo Defense slowed the Rattler attack, but Tolar managed to score on a fourth-down pass. The run for extra points was stopped by Lebow, Everett, and English. 14-12 Dillos. Tolar covered an onside kick. The Rattler pass attack gained valuable yards. Tolar scored to take the lead.

Pass for the extra points was incomplete. 14-18 Rattlers.

Tolar kicked to San Saba. Thorpe ran for 17,7, and 30. Everett gained 5, Lebow 7, Thorpe ran in from the 10. Gonzalez kick was good. 21-18 Dillos. After the kick off, English and Roberts both had quarterback sacs. The Dillo offense took over and ran one play before the half.

San Saba kicked to Tolar to begin the second half. Dawson Crawford and Kaylub Roberts raced the Rattler quarterback. Tolar punted. Kalub Roberts partially blocked the punt. Thorpe ran for 7, Lebow 4 before a facemask penalty on Thorpe added 15. Everett ran for 12, Lebow 10. Thorpe broke loose for a 38-yard touchdown run. Gonzalez kick was true. 28-18 Dillos.

San Saba kicked to Tolar. Everett, Lebow, English, Vega, Gray, Tharp, Stewardson, Jonathan Garcia, and Adrian Perez forced another Rattler punt. Kalub Roberts blocked and covered the punt. Lebow ran for 5,Thorpe 5, Lebow 2, Thorpe 12, Lebow 3, Thorpe 2 and 3. A pass from Thorpe to Danny English was good for another Dillo Touchdown. The P.A.T. failed. 34-18 Dillos.

After the kick Preston Gray, Danny English and Jayden Aguirre played good defense. Kaylub Roberts recovered a Rattler fumble. The Dillos fumbled the next play, and Tolar picked it up and ran 65 yards to a score. The run for extra points was good. 34-26 Dillos.

Tolar kicked to San Saba as the fourth quarter began. The onside attempt was covered by Jayden Aguirre for the Dillos.

Lebow ran for 7, then 7 more. Thorpe added 16, Lebow 5 and then 5 more to a touchdown. Jason Everett added the extra points on a good run. 42-26 to end the scoring.

After the kick Jose Vega, Jack Stewardson, Danny English, Kaylub Roberts, Preston Gray played good defense. Stewardson and Roberts teamed up for a sac. Jason Everett intercepted a Rattler pass and returned it 55 yards. The Dillos knelt it for the victory.

Other valuable team members in action this year were Diego Gil Vega, Melvin Umble, JJ Romero, Anthony Garcia, Rodolfo Valdez, Jonathan Garcia, Rual Solis, Keagan Salinas, Ulices Mendoza, Adam Matthews, Ryton Morgan, Andre Martinez, Ryan Lemaster, and Rodrigo Macedo.
