Jost wins All-West Texas Coach of the Year!

Four members of the historic 2021-22 San Saba High School girls varsity basketball team were honored over the weekend as the head coach and three key players were named in the annual 2022 All-West Texas Girls Basketball Team compiled by Amy McDaniel of the San Angelo Standard-Times.

Chris Jost: Coach Of The Year

Lady Dillos first-year head coach Chris Jost, who took over for former San Saba head coach Alicia Cummings after she departed for district rival Mason High School, was absolutely sensational in his first season at the helm of the Lady Dillos as he guided them to a 31-8 overall record and was named one of two Coaches of the Year. This included a trip to the UIL 2A Girls Basketball State Tournament after San Saba dominated its opponents during the 2022 playoffs with an 86-36 crushing of Charlotte High School in the bi-district round, another 76-27 thrashing of Yorktown High School in the area round, a gritty 48-34 win over district rival Harper High School in the regional quarterfinals, a 60-34 rout of Hearne High School in the regional semifinals, and advancing to the state tourney with a resounding 61-21 beatdown of Normangee High School in the regional finals. Despite the lopsided loss to eventual 2A champion Gruver High School in the state semifinals, this was San Saba’s first trip to state since 2011.

Landri Glover: Defensive Player Of The Year

The senior forward Landri Glover was a force to be reckoned with as she was a four-year starter for the Lady Dillos who made it to at least the regional finals in all four years at the varsity level. According to the Standard-Times, Glover was a senior captain and did it all for the Lady Dillos during her senior season as she averaged 9.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.2 steals, 2.8 as-sists, and 0.6 blocks per contest all while shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 70.3 percent from the free-throw line. Glover was also selected as a TABC all-state selection for Class 2A.

Nojemi Martinez: All-West Texas Team Selection

As the Lady Dillos’ leading scorer for the 2021-22 season, senior Nojemi Martinez was a constant threat on both ends of the floor for San Saba. The senior scored in double figures consistently as she averaged 10.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game. Martinez also shot 51.3 percent from the field and also knocked down baskets from behind the arc as she shot 30 percent from three-point range.

Lexy Amthor: All-West Texas Team Selection

A junior guard under coach Jost who really got things going in the second half of the season, Lexy Amthor battled through an injury to bounce back and have a great year. A valuable player who will be back next season as a senior leader, Amthor capped off a very good senior campaign with 8.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.8 steals per game. She also was a very effective shooter at the free-throw line as she shot 75.8 percent from the charity stripe.
