Scouting America Troop 55 chartered by San Saba Masonic Lodge 612 is proud to announce Jefferson Stencil as meeting all the requirements to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Jefferson has had the rank of Eagle in his sight since he started as a cub scout. He is joining three family members in this outstanding distinction!
The rank of Eagle Scout is the highest of the seven ranks in Scouting America. Only 5% of youth obtain this goal in their scouting career! 21 merit badges are required as one step in the trail to the Eagle rank. Serving as a youth leader in the troop and assisting younger scouts is also a vital piece of the process. Service to the community is a key role and responsibility for all scouts. An Eagle candidate is required to create, plan and complete an Eagle Scout Service Project.

Lieutenant Commander Heywood Lane Edwards was Captain of the USS Reuban James, a destroyer that was torpedoed by a German U-boat in the Battle of the Atlantic on October 31, 1941. He was considered one of the first casualties of World War II. The project is now an exhibit at the San Saba County Museum. Edwards was born in San Saba, TX. On November 9, 1905. He died at the age of 35.
Jefferson is a Senior at San Saba High School. He has applied to the Air Force Academy as well as other military academies and Texas A&M. During his time as an Armadillo, Jefferson has competed in football, cross country, track, golf, a member of National Honor Society, Golden Armadillo Band, and Student Council.
