HCM restarts Safe Sitter babysitting training

The Hill Country Memorial Wellness Center is offering its popular Safe Sitter class the next three months on February 19, March 26, and April 14. Each class meets from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the HCM Wellness Center, 200 W. Windcrest in Fredericksburg.

Safe Sitter is open to students in grades 6 through 8. The class is designed to prepare students to be safe when they are home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting.

Using role-playing exercises and games, trained instructors will cover the following essential skills:

Safety skills

How to prevent unsafe situations and how to handle weather and other emergencies

Child care skills

Managing behaviors, basic child development stages, and diapering and feeding

First aid and rescue skills

Assessing injuries, choking rescue, and CPR

Business skills

How to deal with employers, set fees, and screen job offers

Participants should bring a sack lunch, drinks, and snacks.
