Happy Herman's Hideaway

All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth

Hello, my San Saba darlings, and how have you guys been since last we spoke? Have you been decking the halls? No, I don’t mean building a backyard barbecue place inside your house…that would just look awkward and set off smoke detectors! What I was referring to is preparing festive Christmas decorations and making your home look all cozy and warm for the holidays.

I had a rather interesting week, yes, I certainly did. Dad took me to see Adam at San Saba Animal Hospital to have my butt squeezed. Yes, I know that sounds ridiculous, and you are probably asking why dad couldn’t have just given it a squeeze and been done with it. It is a technical thing this dachshund doesn’t really understand, but it is necessary so I don’t go around doing the Butt Scootin’ Boogie everywhere. Anywho, while I was there, he spoke to Adam about having my teeth cleaned, and I ended up getting an appointment for the next morning! The only time I have ever been under anesthetic was when I was a little puppy, and I have no memory of it. I will likely never forget this time. I came home feeling like someone drove me to a bar, poured drinks down me without my knowledge and then told me to enjoy a long hangover! I love Adam to pieces; he is just the nicest person on earth. But I think it sure would be nice to associate him with something nice like hamburgers, broccoli or squeaky toys! Oh well, he has a job to do, and to tell you the truth, it is one I so appreciate he is here to do.

While I was at the vet, they delivered a Christmas present for me. I won’t be able to enjoy it until well after the holidays because of a little incident that happened before surgery, but the way time has been flying by I will be wrestling with it in no time. Mom told me she needs to wrap presents and will put them on the shelf under the tree. I felt my abundantly bushy eyebrows raise in amusement as my mind raced with thoughts of opening not only my presents but dads too at my leisure and without checking a calendar. You would think after almost five years of knowing me mom would not still be making such rookie mistakes.

Dad and I were talking to some men working on a house across the street. And when one of them found out I wrote this column, he said he was proud to have met a celebrity, and he loved my column. Goodness, I am by no means a celebrity, only a little wired haired dachshund who loves sharing his simple life with you in hopes to bring smiles and let you feel my appreciation and love for you. As most of you know, dogs live life with joy in their hearts and the want to give it to others. I live, write and exist to spread it. I hope you have a wonderful week until next we speak, and thank you for being!
