This past weekend we had a few members from the Golden Armadillo Band audition for the All-Region Band in Fredericksburg.

Julia Smith auditioned on French Horn, earned a chair in the Region Band, and advanced to area in the class 3A track. Everett Eidson auditioned on Trumpet, earned a chair in the Region Band, and advanced to area in the class 3A track. John Spence auditioned on Contra-Alto Clarinet, received first chair in the Region Band, and advanced to area in the class 4A track.

In order to earn a chair in the region band, students must learn multiple major scales, their chromatic scale, a lyrical etude and a technical etude and perform all of these requirements in a blind audition for five judges. The judges then rank them, and if they place high enough, then they are able to earn a chair in the Region Band. The Region Band is comprised of 1A-4A schools in our specific region.

The region breaks the area advancement into two separate tracks: a 4A track that all 4A’s in the region have to compete in, and a 3A track that all 1A-3A schools compete in. There are a few instruments that have to compete in the 4A track which is why we had a student audition in that particular track.

The three students who advanced to area will be auditioning for a chance to make the All-State band in January.
