Cassandra Merriman, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, and Deryl Hoyt, Jr., owner and broker of Hoyt Real Estate, set up and manned the table for the free Hunter’s bags and the raffle tickets for sale which benefit the Chamber’s Scholarship Fund. However, it seems Cassandra and Deryl have disappeared and instead, the best help, 6-year-old Adelynn, has taken their place and just poses prettily and perfectly for this picture. By the way - Adelynn also asked me if I was doing okay . . . how’s that for service?!?

This nice family stopped and readily and happily posed for my camera at the Chamber’s Welcome station where the Hunter’s Welcome “goody” bags were handed out to individuals or families who hunt in the area.

SSVFD staff are manning the serving tables and working furiously to fill orders given by the guys taking orders and monies. The men at the tables are working as fast as they can because they can see the the line of cars and trucks . . . who are probably hungry hunters or people like myself and my husband who are just plain hungry for a good steak! I wouldn’t want to trade places with those guys at the tables . . . I think they have the hardest jobs! When we got up to give our order, we got the last two baked potatoes, and a runner went to Wise Meat Market for more steak. Whew, I’m just glad we made it to the steak and potatoes! By the way, everything was cooked to perfection to our tastes.

If you ever wondered what the SSVFD uses to cook their steak for the annual Hunter’s Steak Supper, look at this cadilllac model of a smoker. It has the same number of wood?-fueled grills/ smokers on the opposide side. Now, that’s how you serve a hungry community. It looks to me like these guys have done this before. . . maybe a time or two! Thanks, SSVFD, for your service to your community and your great cooking skills too!
