“Frosty Fun Fest” brings snow to the Science Mill on Jan 18

The Science Mill is bringing in 28 TONS OF REAL SNOW for a flurry of fun science activities that include a mini sled derby, a snowball slingshot, the Fros-TEE Challenge, warm treats, and frosty science demonstrations, on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 10am-2pm at 101 South Lady Bird Lane, Johnson City, TX.

A listing of events:

Snow Pit (all day)

  • DIY Snow (10am & 12pm)
  • Spaghetti Engineering Challenge (11am & 1pm)
  • Liquid Nitrogen (10:30am & 1:30pm) - Demonstrating the chemical properties of a super icy substance as everyday objects are exposed to liquid nitrogen at -321 degrees F.
  • Vortex Cannon (12:30, with Frosty Bubbles) - A cannon creates toroidal vortices as educators explain how even the smallest particles and molecules in the air experience the physics of friction
  • Frosty Bubbles (12:30, with Vortex Cannon) - In this demonstration, guests will learn about sublimation
  • Fros-Tee Challenge (11am, 12pm, & 1pm)
  • Snowball Slingshot - Guests will use a mounted slingshot to launch snowballs to hit hanging hula-hoop targets
  • Mini Sled Derby - Design and build a custom mini sled derby to test against others

  • Masshole Foodtruck - Lobster Rolls
