40 Years Ago August 25, 1983

Mrs. Kay Nettleship will head the San Saba Band Booster Club for the 1983-84 term. She was elected president when the club met. Other officers for the coming year are Judy McCoy, vice-president; Linda Hardy, secretary-treasurer; and Carol Letbetter, reporter.

Susan Barrier of San Saba and Debbie Doyal and Todd Lewis of Richland Springs were among the more than 400 high school juniors and seniors who participated in the 21st Annual Texas Farm Bureau Citizenship Seminar on the campus of Angelo State University at San Angelo.

Mrs. Winnifred Liptak of Rye, New York is spending two weeks with her niece, Mrs. Winston Millican and seeing her other relatives and friends in San Saba. Mrs. Liptak won the award for coming the farthest to the Old Settlers Reunion.

A total of $713.52 was raised for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as local bikers pedaled in the San Saba Wheels for life Bike-a-thon for Terry.

A truck overturned on Highway 190 in the Richland Springs city limits Saturday morning. The driver of the truck suffered only minor injuries when the cab was separated from the trailer in the accident. The truck hit a slick place in the road caused by light rain, skidded and over turned.

Dora Evans has been named news editor of the San Saba News & Star. Mrs. Evans, wife of Ken Evans, has expressed her interest for more local news concerning the various meetings of the city council, school board, and other groups. Juanita Shields is new on the advertising staff and will be contacting merchants concerning their advertising needs and upcoming special promotions the News publishes to help promote San Saba County.

The community will be seeing Appraisal District personnel around the county in a new vehicle! For the first time in its history, San Saba County Appraisal District has purchased an auto for use in District business within the county. Although the primary use will be in field appraisal, it will be utilized for other errands: banking, postal duties and the like.

City Manager, Stan Weik gave the following information at the recent city council meeting. Dwayne Shaw was recognized as the new Police Chief for the City of San Saba. He had been sworn in by Judge Les Dawson that morning.

Domingo and Lucia Jimenez of San Saba are proud to announce the engagement of their daughter, Lucy Helen to Daniel Aguirre, son of Jose and Maria Aguirre of Killeen.

Terry Smith, President of the Carrie Smith Memorial Fund presented a check in the amount of $1,000 to Alice Smith, Treasurer of Abundant Life Ministries, San Saba, Texas for the building of a new church in San Fernando, Mexico.

Larry and Becky Moore are the recipients of the Yard of the Month Award for August as announced by the San Saba Garden Club. The couple moved to San Saba and into their current home in 2011 and together they have made strides in improving the residence throughout the last two years.

Diana and Kevin McKenna and Scott and Leigh Ann Glaze, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Brittany Marie Glaze, to Chase Love, son of Glen (Cowboy) and Gina Love of Goldthwaite.
