Will God always bless America?
We just celebrated the anniversary of our country, the United States of America. We are now 245 years old. We are blessed to live in the most prosperous country in the entire world. God has truly blessed America. My prayer is that He will continue to bless us as a nation. However, as evidenced from the Scriptures, that may not always happen.
God chose one people and made a nation of them that He protected and took care of. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were the people He chose. They numbered 75 people when they moved to Egypt. Over the years they were made a mighty nation that we know as Israel. He brought them out of Egypt and gave them a land that would be theirs. Moses was leading them and told them that if they were faithful to God, He would bless them. And if they were not faithful, He would curse them. (Deuteronomy 29-31)
For a good while, they did as God said. Then, they began to turn their backs on God and served idols. They divided. Ten northern tribes became Israel, and Judah was the southern tribe that became a strong nation. Israel fell away from following God and chose to serve idols and separate themselves from God. They were warned by the prophets of the Old Testament to turn or to be taken captive by the Assyrian nation. They were carried off into captivity.
The southern tribe, Judah, would also have this presented to them. They strayed away from the teachings that God had given His people. As they did, they were warned by the prophets to turn back to God. They refused and were taken captive by the Babylonians.
I say this to let us know that God demands we be a holy nation. In 1 Peter 1:15-16 we read, “but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; 16 because it is written, "YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY." The nations of Israel and Judah were not destroyed from outside themselves. They were destroyed from the inside as they decided they did not need God any longer. We have many people today who are following in their footsteps.
Therefore, God could definitely allow us to be taken over by other nations. We could lose all the things we hold dear at this time. As a nation, we need to wake up before we lose everything. We hear God saying in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” The nation of Judah did not heed this. Let’s pray that America learns from their error.
