Going to Worship

So, how do you feel about going to church services? Do you find it a joy to go and worship the Creator? Do you find it necessary? Do you go just so you can say that you have been? Do you go because that’s where your family is? Or do you stay home and sleep, or watch TV, or go out with friends? Do you stay away because you find it not important? There may be many reasons why we go to worship.

At the present time there are those who have decided because of COVID-19 they will not go to services. If you have the virus you must stay away. If you are sick you need to stay away. If you are one of the people who is at high risk, again you should stay home.

However, though there is still a danger, many churches are opening back up. Slowly they have added services while at the same time still taking precautions. If you are one of those who is just using this as an excuse, I don’t find it a very good one. Most churches are providing masks, hand sanitizers, and spacing around their auditoriums. They are taking every precaution to make sure the worshiper is safe while still meeting the command to not forsake the assembly. (Hebrews 10:24-25)

While reading through the Psalms this week I read these words. “For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand outside. I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.” Psalm 84:10 (NASB) The Psalmist knew how important is was to be there to worship God. One day with God is better than a thousand away from Him. Wow! How important is that? Is that the way you believe also? If not, it certainly needs to be.

But just being near to God is so much better than taking part in wicked things. Much of our world today does not have this same point of view. Many believe they can behave the way they desire to and still will walk down the streets of heaven.

Notice these words from the Psalmist in verse 11, “For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” Who does He not withhold any good thing from? Those who walk uprightly. There is a good reason we should follow the teachings of the Bible. When we are obedient to God He will not keep anything from us that we need. Let’s go to worship God and not stay away. Let’s live righteous lives so that we may be with our God one day. I’m going to do my best, will you?
