Is Your Heart Breaking?

Health issues are a problem for many of us. The wearing of masks and sanitizing our hands cause us frustration. Companies and stores are laying off people because of a lack of business. The family is having a period of crisis. The marriage is on sandy soil, and the tide is about to wash it away. The list can go on, and you can add your problems to it.

Where do we turn when so much is taking place? To those who love God they have a place of safety. They have someone who truly cares what is happening in their lives. It is the God who created us and provides for our needs.

The Psalmist tells us in Psalm 34:18, “The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (NASB) The things we mentioned above have a way of breaking our hearts. There are times that we do not know which way to turn. We have done all we know to do, and nothing seems to help. These words are words of comfort. Of healing. Of trusting. Of hope.

I don’t know what the future holds for any of us. But I do trust in my God to make a way for me. Are you?

Does that mean that all of my problems are going to disappear? I would be a fool to answer that in the affirmative. No, they are not going to go away. But for the Christian who trusts in God, He will be there to help us. Listen to Paul as he tells the Corinthians: “No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13 By trusting in God and following His way, we can endure the things that happen to us each day. But we must look for His way and not trust in ourselves to solve all of our problems. We can’t. Sometimes we just make a bigger mess.

Is there something causing you to be brokenhearted? Read Psalm 34:18 again. It is there to give us the comfort we need. Trust in God. Be obedient to His word. Be His disciple.
