The Golden Armadillo Band competed in the region 32 marching contest and evaluation this past weekend in Burnet. Their performance of their UIL program “reIMAGINEd” earned them a Division 1 Superior rating from all three judges advancing the band to the UIL Area contest.
The band was evaluated by the three judges on whether or not we meet the state standard in marching. A division 1 equates to a District Championship. The Area round of competition is our playoffs where we hope to have a strong showing and beat other bands. The area contest will be full of bands who have earned a Division 1 rating from their respective region contest.
Our show this year is titled “reIMAGINEd” and was written by Luke McMillan, a marching band composer and arranger from Abilene. The show opens up with “Imagine” by John Lennon. The second movement of the show is “Mad World” by Gary Jules. This movement features soloists Everett Eidson on baritone, Delaney Ellis on trombone, and One Nguyen and Leia Kilman from our Colorguard section. Our third movement of the show is titled “End Game” by Luke McMillan. This movement features Adan Huron, Alex Estrada, Jose Aguilera, Fabian Salinas and Juan Patino from our Saxo phone section.
“A really fine looking band on the field…Nice snappy salute…Nice body movement… Good coordination and effective use of your guard…
A really good effort and neat ideas…I really enjoyed this performance…There was a purposeful approach to dynamic contrast and I really enjoyed that…Good body control and good recovery when there was an error,” were a few of the comments that we received from the judges.
The band will compete in the UIL Area D marching contest on October 30th in Bastrop where they hope to earn a trip to the state marching contest.
