The San Saba County Museum Foundation Inc., invites you to hear Mr. Curt Locklear on Sunday, June 6th, at The Father’s House Fellowship Hall, 704 E. Commerce Street. His program is entitled The Civil War on the Texas Coast with Music. A brief business meeting will begin at 2:00 p.m. followed by Mr. Locklear’s presentation.

Curt Locklear is an awardwinning author, historian, teacher, and public speaker who has presented his programs about the Civil War west of the Mississippi in many States. Using his banjo and guitar, he will enliven his presentation with songs, stories, and humor.

Curt is almost a local boy as he was born in the San Saba Hospital as there was not hospital in Goldthwaite where his parents were living at the time. He grew up in Brady and later Austin. As a youngster, he helped his father, who trained thoroughbred racehorses. Curt mucked horse stalls, loaded, and unloaded hay bales, fed and hot walked the horses, herded cattle, raised sheep, plucked chickens, and stretched barbed wire fence.

After growing up, he obtained his bachelor’s degree in English and History and was a teacher and coach. Later, he received his master’s degree and became a principal in school districts north of Austin. He taught, at one time or another, grades four through twelve, directed one act plays and UIL literary events, and taught chess to students every year he was a principal.

As an author, he has won short story awards. His Civil War novels Asunder, A novel of the Civil War, Splintered and Reconciled are rated 5 stars (highest rating). Splintered took first place in the 2018 International Laramie Awards. He also has a mystery tale set in Dickens’s time called Scrooge and Cratchit, Detectives. It is the first of a series.
