Cummings, Cash among those honored on All-West Texas Team

Following a stellar 2020-21 season, the San Saba High School girls varsity basketball team was honored this past week as Lady Dillos head coach Alicia Cummings and four of her players were selected to the San Angelo Standard-Times’ All-West Texas team.

According to Amy McDaniel of the Standard-Times, Lady Dillos’ senior standout forward Courtnee Cash was named as the Most Valuable Player of the team for averaging 14.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.2 steals, 2.8 assists per game, and hit 42 three-point attempts this season.

“She is a phenomenal athlete, but she’s also a great kid of character,” Cummings said of Cash via an interview with McDaniel. “She is a great role model for these younger kids. She takes pride in doing the right things. The coaches around the area respect her, so that’s something she’s going to leave behind. Those don’t come around all the time.”

For the All-West Super Team, which features selections from all classes, Cummings was named the Coach of the Year for getting the Lady Dillos all the way to the regional finals for the fourth consecutive season. Also making the team as players were senior guard Brighton Adams as Co-Defensive Player of the Year for the Super Team, junior forward Landri Glover as a Super Team selection, and senior guard Braycie Vickery as a Class 2A All-West Texas roster pick.

The Lady Dillos finished with a superb 26-2 overall record during the 2020-21 season and picked up wins during the 2A playoffs over Sabinal High School, Freer High School, rival Harper High School, and Normangee High School. San Saba was eliminated in the Region IV-2A final against Snook High School in a heartbreaking 28-25 loss back on March 2 that featured elite defense by both teams throughout the game.
