The Richland Springs Coyotes impressively opened the 2026 football season Friday, August 28, defeating the Lometa Hornets 64-24 on the road. The victory marked a successful debut for head coach James McIntyre, as the Coyotes produced 478 yards of total offense, including 255 yards rushing and 223 yards through the air.
Evan Deeds led the Richland Springs offense with 175 rushing yards and three touchdowns while completing 9 of 11 passes for 179 yards and three more scores. Brice Roesler hauled in five catches for 120 yards and three touchdowns, while Layne Ward completed 3 of 4 passes for 57 yards and two touchdowns and added 58 yards rushing. Matthew Woerndell contributed two receptions for 47 yards and a touchdown, Dalton Moats added a 17-yard touchdown reception, and AJ Rosales recorded a 25-yard catch. Christian McKinnerney also contributed 20 yards on the ground.
The Coyotes were strong on both sides of the ball, with Deeds adding two interceptions defensively to help secure the win. Richland Springs will look to carry the momentum from its season-opening victory into Week 2 when the Coyotes travel to face Gustine on Friday, September 4.
