Message from Dr. Craig Whiting:
There is one more day of free COVID testing this month being held at the Civic Center on Wednesday afternoon, December 30th, from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. We are still working on the plans for testing in January as the Civic Center is already booked for the first half of the month. We do hope to expand the testing to three ½ days a week in January.
The Governor’s committee on vaccine distribution has defined the priorities for distributing and administering the vaccines, and the first tier of folks who are receiving the vaccine are the hospital staff who care directly for COVID infected patients. Also in line for first immunization are EMS workers as well as nursing home staff. Soon, there should be enough vaccine available to begin vaccinating people in the second priority tier which includes home health workers, school nurse, hospice workers and others. Predictions are that there will be vaccine available for everyone by May or June of next year, perhaps sooner.
In the meantime, we can protect ourselves and each other by following the simple guidelines: mask, distance, handwashing.
