Message from Dr. Craig Whiting:

Hopefully, both the Baylor Scott & White Clinic and Everett’s Pharmacy will receive the vaccine in February. And it appears that the vaccine does provide protection from the variants of the COVID-19 virus that have appeared around the world, which is very good news indeed.

It has been noted that people who are low in some nutrients tend to have more severe infection and complications with COVID-19. Two of these nutrients are vitamin-D and zinc. It is not unreasonable to consider taking supplements for these. 1,000 units (25 mcg) of vitamin-D and 30 to 60 mg of zinc a day are probably reasonable supplements for an adult. Alternatively, a person can eat foods rich in these nutrients. Some fish rich in vitamin-D include tuna, salmon and anchovies. Egg yolks and mushrooms also have significant vitamin-D. Zinc is found in shellfish (shrimp, crab), legumes (beans, chickpeas), seeds (pumpkin, sesame) and dark chocolate. In addition, especially during flu season, I would advise vitamin-C to support the immune system. 1,000 mg twice a day is sufficient for an adult. Foods rich in vitamin-C include citrus (oranges, lemons), broccoli, spinach, and strawberries.

Reminder from Marsha Hardy:

Keep trying to protect yourself and those around you!

Simply: wash your hands, wear your mask, pay attention to your surroundings and, mostly, be kind!
