County offical attends Texas Public Funds Investment Conference

The Honorable Lois H. Van-Beck, Treasurer of San Saba County, attended the Texas Association of Counties' (TAC) Texas Public Funds Investment Conference, November 3rd and 4th in Houston. TAC's County Investment Academy holds the annual conference.

The conference helps county officials piece together the puzzle of their county's investment options. Experts from the financial industry and seasoned investment officers discuss the U.S. economy, strategies for a changing market, municipal bonds and authorized investments that might be used to diversify a county's portfolio.

About 150 participants mostly representing counties, cities, school districts and special districts attended this year's conference. Attendees could earn 10 hours of continuing education credit toward mandatory continuing education requirements.

TAC's County Investment Academy provides investment eduction through a variety of conferences that give attendees access to accurate, in-depth information, as well as the opportunity to network with experienced county investors from across the state. The overall objective of the program is to safeguard public funds through the introduction of modern operational techniques that provide counties with appropriate yield from taxpayer dollars.

The McCoy College of Business Administration at Texas State University is a cooperative partner with TAC in producing the TAC County Investment Academy. TAC began its public investing educational program in 1992. It remains one of the premier programs of its kind in the country.
