Excitement is building at Cherokee Home as our FFA Program gets underway. Last week, the kids were busy getting the pens ready by scooping and hauling sand for the bedding areas. This week, 22 little pigs arrived, bringing plenty of excitement to the campus!
The children participating in the program will have the opportunity to learn much more than how to care for an animal. Through the daily work of feeding, watering, and cleaning pens, they will learn responsibility, dedication, discipline, and the value of hard work. They will also learn about sportsmanship— how to celebrate success while accepting setbacks with dignity. As they prepare their pigs for the show ring, they will discover that reaching a goal takes time, patience, and commitment.
The pigs will be a big part of the kids’ fall as they prepare for the San Saba County Stock Show in January. They will also have an opportunity to show in Lometa in December. We’re looking forward to watching the kids work with their animals, cheer one another on, and experience the pride that comes from seeing their hard work pay off.
We’re grateful for the support that makes opportunities like this possible. Programs like the Pig Program give our kids the chance to develop practical skills, build confidence, and learn lessons that reach far beyond the show ring. We can’t wait to see what this year’s Pig Program has in store!
