The Bend News

It has been a while! I took a break from writing this article, but I am back. Here at the Bend, we are a very tight-knit community. We look out for each other, and we call on one another. It is a very special thing to have grown up at the Bend. I try not to take this community for granted. It is such a special place to call home. We can’t let these traditions die; we must do our best to keep them alive for generations to come. With all of that being said, through the Bend Community Center, I am working on capturing as much of the history as I can. I have a couple of projects I’m hoping to finish by the end of the year. One of them is our community cookbook. I have been working on it for about a year now. I am hoping to have some copies or at least a rough draft to have a pre-sale list at our annual fish fry this coming October. In the cookbook, I am hoping to have photos, recipes, home remedies and stories. Please let me know if you have anything to add to the cookbook.

Here are a few things that will be happening around the Bend:

• Every Thursday at 10 a.m. the Bend UMC hosts cookies and coffee for anyone who wants to come. They talk about history and what happened around the Bend back in the day. People bring old photos, books and wisdom.

• The TEEA club meets at the Bend Methodist Church in the Fellowship Hall on Monday, September 14th, at 2 p.m.

• Our Community Center will start back our community meetings on Saturday, September 18th, 7 p.m.
