The Bend News

Hello from Bend,

How crazy is it that school is right around the corner?! This summer has gone by extremely fast, and it also seems like school keeps getting earlier each year. I find myself daydreaming all the time of what it was like “back in the day” when the old Bend schoolhouse was a functioning school. Kids all walked to school then, and don’t forget it was barefoot and in the snow….. uphill both ways. That’s the way the story goes, right? *wink* Times seemed simpler back then than they do now, though I don’t know if I were in that ‘era’ if I would have that same opinion at the time, ha! I’m sure I would’ve found stuff to complain about back then as well….like WHY is school uphill both ways?!

Anyhow, I suppose everyone is ready for some Bend News other than my ramblings. It has been a busy couple of weeks. We did get one heck of a storm cell come over us last week, and boy did the rain feel nice. It sadly didn’t affect the river or the creeks. It did, however, make a lot of trees mad. These trees falling over left and right are about to get on my last nerve. Huge gusts of wind came thru the Bend, and in what seemed like just a few minutes, we actually got an inch of rain. The week before last, I lost a huge section of a tree; luckily (Praise God) it did not land on my vehicle (badly) and it didn’t land on my house! Pfew! Low and behold, one week later the tree beside it decided to split right down the middle all the way to the ground. Again, luckily (Thank you, Lord), it landed over the fence and down into the road…it’s the rest of the tree that is the big concern right now. Ooof. So far, in the ‘tree crisis' progress’ I’ve stared at it a whole lot. Sighhh. In fact, I should take this time to apologize to Ms. Ginger Underwood for having to drive around said tree in the road to go anywhere. Sorry, Ginger!! I don’t know who yelled “Timber!!!!” to make those trees fall, but it wasn’t me! The Bend community lost an

The Bend community lost an icon this last week. The good Lord has called Clovis Gibson home to heaven. What a life she lived, 95 long years! Clovis Gibson was born on February 10, 1928, and left this earthly world on July 11, 2022. Services were held on Saturday, July 16, 2022. Clovis left behind a lot of people who will miss her dearly, but she also left behind a TON of memories and stories that will be passed down from generation to generation. My thoughts and prayers go out to Clovis’ family and friends. There is no doubt that one day you all will see her again. <3

This last week was also a week to celebrate a few birthdays! I’m a little behind on birthday lists, so we’ll start with Robert (Bad Bob) Fullerton. Bob celebrated his 70th birthday on July 10th! Bobby Hicks celebrated a birthday on July 15th and his lovely wife, Debbie Hicks, on July 17th! Catherine Hicks also celebrated a birthday on July 17th! Bobby Morris has a birthday on July 18th and her daughter, Jamie Garrett, has a birthday on July 23rd. Stephen Byrd will join in celebrating birthdays this month; Stephen has a birthday on July 29th! Wow, that’s a lot of birthdays. I will say this….someone is slacking because I didn’t eat ANY birthday cake lately. Haha. I hope that everyone is staying

I hope that everyone is staying cool, drinking lots of CLEAN water (no thanks to Corix), and finding the blessings along the way! I, for one, have been griping way too much lately and am so thankful to my sweet little River Anne, who left a Bible verse on my wall a couple weeks ago. I’ve caught myself stopping to read it regularly. In fact, it’s a perfectly good way to wrap up this week’s news…. “Oh Lord, God. You yourself

“Oh Lord, God. You yourself made the heavens and the earth. By your great power and with your outstretched arm, nothing is too difficult for you.” Jeremiah 32:17

Until next week,
