Hello from Bend,
June kicked off with a lot of activity for folks in Bend! Winnie Lou and Phyllis McCoury traveled to College station recently to watch Carson Lemons play (and win!) in a championship Baseball game. They also attended the High School Graduation of Holli Kolby, the oldest great granddaughter of Winnie Lou and the oldest granddaughter of Phyllis. Holli was Drum Major of the College Station HS Cougar marching band and a member of the Jazz band, both with highest honors. Holli graduated Summa cum Laude and was accepted to attend Texas A&M this fall. Sunday, the family honored her with a graduation party at the home of Diane Dowdy. Phyllis also reported that Cole and Kyle Keen came to the Bend on Monday to spend a few days and were hoping to do some fishing.
June 2-5th, there were many in attendance for the 164th Bend UMC Camp Meeting, held at the Methodist Campground on Cherokee Creek. Pastor Tim Brewer was joined during the event by guest, Reverend Eradio Valverde. I only got the chance to go on one evening, but it was an honor to hear both men preach. The fellowship was wonderful, and the food, as always, was fantastic. Folks are already looking forward to next year, and the invitation is open to all!
Bobbi and Phillip Morris will celebrate an anniversary on June 15th! Just one day later, on June 16th, William and Jane Clark will celebrate an anniversary. Congratulations to two lovely and inspiring Bend couples! Wishing you many more years to come!
Dan Craig’s grandson, Dylan Craig, graduated this last week from his high school in Midford, Oregon. Dylan spent his first semester this last school year living with his grandpa Dan and attending San Saba High School. We miss him being in Texas, but we sure are proud of him!
I had the pleasure of running into Carrie Keeney and her daughter, Layci (Megan) Keeney Aguirre, a few days ago. Wow, what an amazing human Carrie raised. Layci was visiting all the way from her home in Caddo Mills. She managed to get away - kid free - for some good ol’ fashion mom/daughter time! They had an interesting visit to say the least! Layci brought Carrie to a doctor appointment in Fredericksburg on Friday, and that was about the only thing that was on the schedule. A water pipe burst at Carrie’s house, and Layci tackled the project head-on and fixed it, all while on the phone with her own daughter (in Caddo) trying to deliver baby kittens.
There’s never really a dull moment in Bend. We were blessed to receive a little bit of rain, though we desperately need some more. Wouldn’t you know there was one little spot of mud, and I managed to get stuck in it?! Ha! It’s a good thing my co-workers drive past my house on the way to work and can give me a ride when need be, haha. Thank you to Phyllis and Carrie for sharing your family adventures with us this week. I hope everyone is staying cool, this summer is definitely a hot one!
Until next week…
Yours truly,
Brandie from the Bend
