For the 7-12-22 blood drive, there were 39 donors registered, three no shows [if they preregister, then we get the forms filled out electronically and all we have to do is verify that all information is still correct…if they are unable to come, they become no shows], five deferrals[if they have any kind of fever, if their iron count is low (that’s usually the culprit!), on certain antibiotics, etc., and this is all determined from the mini-physical], and three turned away. This is a first!!! In the 21 years that I have been doing this, this is the first time because of an error in the inventory and there was not enough equipment to finish us!! This means that 28 units were sent back to the hospital for use!!
