Armadillos bring the “Boom”

The Armadillo football team picked up their third consecutive win last Friday night when they beat the previously undefeated Johnson City Eagles 28-3. The Dillo’s physical run game and hard-hitting defense proved to be too much for the Eagles as San Saba improved to 3-0 on the young season.

Offensive stats

San Saba tallied up 222 rushing yards on 27 attempts (8.2yard avg.) with three rushing TD's and only went to the air nine times for 38 yards. Leading the way rushing was Ethan Gonzales, 13 carries for 129 yards (9.9 avg) and two rushing TD. Quarterback Lance Taylor ran the ball eight times for 61 yards (7.6 avg) and scored once and was 6 of 9 passing (66%) with one passing TD. Tyler Johnson added 30 yards rushing on five attempts and had four receptions for 28 yards and one receiving TD. Lane Miller and Dylan Ware both chipped in with one reception each.

Defensive stats

The Armadillo defense was once again a smothering one; the Dillos forced three turnovers (2 interceptions, one forced fumble) and had nine sacks on the night. Leading the defense was Zuri Herrera (18 tackles, one sack) followed by DE Dylan Ware (12 tackles, four sacks). Haiden Van-Bibber and Lane Miller picked up their first interceptions on the season in the game while Levi glover had a fumble recovery.

Game Summary 1st Quarter 7:52 - The Dillos opening drive goes 60 yards and ends when Gonzales runs in from the six-yard line. PAT is good; 7-0 San Saba.

2nd Quarter

6:01 - Ethan Gonzales scores his second rushing touchdown after he finds the sideline and scampers 73 yards for the score. PAT is good; 14-0 San Saba.

2:15 - QB Lance Taylor scrambles through the defense and scores from 31 yards out. PAT is good; 21-0 San Saba.

3rd Quarter

6:36 - Johnson City’s lone score on the night comes way of a 36-yard field goal; 21-3 San Saba.

4th Quarter

3:53 - The Dillos seal the game with a six-yard pass from Taylor to Johnson. PAT is good; 28-3 San Saba.
