To say it was a recordsetting year in the world of San Saba athletics would be an understatement. The Dillos’ and Lady Dillos’ performances on the competitive stages were not only fierce, but down right dominating. The title of District Champs was earned in girls’ cross country, football, girls’ basketball, and boys’ basketball. The Cross-Country team placed 3rd at the state level, and our Football team and Lady Dillos’ basketball advanced to the Regional Finals tournament. The boys’ basketball team advanced to the state tournament for the first time in 92 years. The only thing that halted the Armadillos from claiming District titles in spring was COVID-19.

Along with the success in sports came the support of the town itself. With the local business’ help, the All Sports Booster Club was able to raise and GIVE BACK $30,411.41 to the athletic department. Next time you are at Rogan Field, Armadillo Arena, the softball and baseball fields, take a moment to look at the sponsorship signs that are hanging along the fences.

The All Sports Booster Club members are comprised of moms and dads that are willing to take time out of their busy schedules and work towards providing our student athletes with the muchneeded equipment upgrades in ALL SPORTS. The elected officers for the 2019-2020 sports year are:

• President - Rusty Glover

• Vice President - Daniel Zepeda

• Secretary - Christina Brockman

• Treasurer - Jake Lackey

• Voting Member - Alisha Mask

• Voting Member - Scott Sears

• Voting Member - Cecilia Bessent

Each head coach from their respective sport was given a requisition form, aka “wish list,” that was returned to the Booster Club with the amount needed to get that item. We were very fortunate to meet EVERY requisition this year. Here is a quick rundown of the items that were purchased by the Booster Club:

• Cross Country – warm-up suits and backpacks

• Football – blocking dummies, field general football throwing machine, charter buses and soap for the players

• Weight room – kettle-ball weights

• Powerlifting – knee wraps and lifting shirts for competitions

• Basketball – Jr. high uniforms (boys), Hudle Auto filming for Armadillo Arena, an automatic shoot a round/rebounding machine

• Golf – five customized golf bags with the SS logo

• Tennis – white tennis hats for all the players and summer league trophies

• Track – customized backpacks and a tent for the team with the logo

• Softball – new speaker and diamond dirt for the infield

• Baseball – batting cage net and customized backpacks

We were also fortunate enough to give four scholarships in the amount of $500 each ($2000 total).

The Booster Club was also able to give each student a shirt with the sport they were participating in at a discounted rate, along with meals during the Meet the Dillos, and a Thanksgiving meal during football season.

The coaches have already returned their “wish list” back to the Booster Club, and we are now gearing up for the 2020-2021 year. Within the next couple of weeks, you will see members start reaching out for support once again, and once again with the generosity of the town, we can make things bigger and better!
