Promising a program filled with musical innovation, the Alias Brass Company will perform in Fredericksburg Sunday, April 13, when the Fredericksburg Music Club presents its seventh of eight concerts for the 2024-2025 season.
Seating for the 3 p.m. program in the sanctuary of Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, 1800 North Llano, will begin at 2:30 p.m. on a first-come, firstserved basis. The performance is free, although goodwill offerings are welcome.
The Alias Brass quintet’s performances, which have played across North and South America, are comprised of standards and original compositions along with concepts that have been credited with blending virtuosic musicianship with a high level of entertainment.
Members Jon Bathia, trumpet; Tim Dueppen, trombone; Natalie Higgins, horn; Clayton Maddox, tuba; and T.J. Tesh, trumpet, combine diverse elements of classical, baroque, jazz, pop and genres in between during their performances which began when the quintet was formed in 2013.
The group has played at such venues as the Banff Centre for the Arts 2018 Summer Concert Series and the 2017 International Horn Symposium in Brazil along with being the featured group at the 2017 International Trumpet Guild Conference in Hershey, Pa.
In addition, the group has been awarded professional residences at the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute in Denver, Colo., and the Banff Centre for the Arts in Alberta, Canada, as well as playing for numerous concerts in the Pacific Northwest, Midwest, Texas, Georgia, California and Missouri. Alias Brass has also played and given masterclasses across the U.S. as performers on the 2017-2018 Allied Concert Series roster.
Meanwhile, music education commands a big part of the quintet’s focus in connecting with musicians and music lovers through wide-reaching and relevant workshops for young audiences. Throughout the school year, Alias members provide clinics, master classes and demonstrations to both young musicians and non-musicians on musical innovation, creativity, technique and expression through music.
In addition to freewill offerings given at the door April 13, that afternoon’s performance is also being partially funded by donations from members of the Fredericksburg Music Club. Membership cards for individuals and corporate sponsors wishing to join the Fredericksburg Music Club will also be available at the door.
