The San Saba High School track and field team was well represented on May 7 when it took part in the 2021 UIL 2A State Championship meet held at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

On Friday evening, Lady Dillos senior Brighton Adams took the stage in the girls 800-meter run with a chance to defend her 2019 title in the same event. Adams, who placed first with a 2:19.58, broke her own personal record in 2021 with a stellar mark of 2:17.33 to repeat as state champion in the 800-meter run.

Having to hold on for the win at the stripe, Adams held off Wellington High School junior Kyla Kane (2:17.99) and Christoval High School senior Allison Vaughn (2:18.51) to win the race. Both Kane and Vaughn also placed in the top three of the 800-meter dash at state back in 2019.

Representing San Saba well on Friday, Adams also competed in the 400-meter dash and was the runner-up with a time of 58.84 seconds, while sophomore Eliza Cope from nearby Mason High School finished in third place right behind Adams with a time of 58.97 seconds.

San Saba had its boys 4x200-meter relay compete against a very talented field of schools. Although the Dillos placed ninth versus tough competition, San Saba’s relay squad set the school record for the 4x200-meter relay with a great time of 1:31.55. The Dillos were represented by senior Logan Glover, junior Wesley Lackey, senior Stone Sears, and senior Justin Yarbrough. San Saba juniors Franco Franco and Reagan Mejia were relay alternates.

It was also announced over the weekend by the San Saba All-Sports Booster Club that Glover had the honor of being selected to the Texas High School Coaches Association 2021 Academic All-State team as a track and field athlete.
