Commissioners’ Court meetings are open to the public, and all are welcome to attend. The Court works very hard researching, learning about, discussing, and deciding important issues for San Saba County. Several County employees are also present at these meetings and give reports from their offices. They all do a great job for you and invite you to their open meetings.
When a large group is expected to attend, the meetings are moved to the 3rd floor courtroom known as the District Courtroom. Otherwise, they are held in the Commissioners’ Courtroom on the 2nd floor of the Courthouse which was the case in last week’s July 10th meeting.
After Judge Fauley opened the meeting with prayer and Commissioner Lebow led in the pledges to the American and Texas flags, many items were discussed.
A request for San Saba County Depository bids was placed on the website and hand delivered to local institutions. Only one bid was received; it was from City National Bank.
The sealed bid was opened and discussed. Sam and Lee Murray from City National Bank were present to answer any questions the Court may have.
County Treasurer Lois Van-Beck stated the bid was the same as before with the requested changes. She also noted that San Saba County has a great relationship with City National Bank and has been very pleased with their services.
Judge Fauley told the Murrays he was very appreciative of them being in attendance to answer questions and for all they do for the County.
The Court unanimously approved the San Saba County Depository bid from City National Bank.
Chief Reid Daly addressed the Court on the current radio situation and plans being discussed and researched for how the Solar Eclipse in April of next year will affect radio communication. He gave updates on three bids for that had been received to help with that and discussed the bid from Motorola in particular.
Details discussed included repeaters on towers, requirements with Hamilton EMS and VFD, a new tower and installation, changes that would improve officer safety, and coverage.
Chief Reid noted that a license has to be approved before any work can be started. He did say the needed items can be in place before the Solar Eclipse next April.
Chief Reid, Ms. VanBeck, and a Motorola representative will sit down to visit and hammer out all the financial details. After some discussion, the item was tabled until the 24th.
The Court approved a Resolution Authorizing Approval of Proposed Texas Statewide Opioid Settlement Agreements. This current settlement amount was $12,431.35. Ms. VanBeck noted this was an ongoing settlement, and settlement dollars could be given out as long as 15 years. They will be brought before the Court for approval as they are received.
Ms. VanBeck presented four Line-Item transfers, and they were unanimously approved as Accounts Payable.
County/District Clerk Kim Wells noted her office is busy learning new software, and it is working.
Ms. VanBeck gave an update on unused American Rescue Funds and noted $184,000 were available and uncommitted.
The following Justice of the Peace report was submitted and unanimously approved: Total: $12,902.30 Community Service/ Jail Credit $533.00 Total to the County: $7,504.70 Small Claims and Civil: None Jail Report totals were as follows: 508 days with an average of 16.93 day stay. The Court congratulated the Sheriff and his office for once again passing the Jail Commission Standards inspection. The Sheriff’s Report was unanimously approved.
No action was taken on the following items: FEMA Status, Burn Ban which is currently in effect.
