San Saba High School Art participated in the Texas Association of Art Educators (TAEA) Youth Art Month (YAM). March is National Youth Art Month, and Texas has been a leader in YAM celebrations and events since it began.
TAEA sponsors a number of School Boards (TASA / TASB) Conference Exhibit Hall. Jennifer Barcenas, a senior at San Saba, had a pencil drawing of a rattlesnake chosen for this event.
March 7th school districts throughout the state celebrate “Big Art Day .'' San Saba High School art students created a mural of two cowboys on the streets of San Saba in 1901. One hundred students participated. Each student painted a “5X5” canvas and then the canvases were put together like a puzzle to create a finished mural.
San Saba students also participated in “The Night at the Museum'' on March 2nd at Mill Pond Park. Students displayed artwork in the museum, painted faces, and displayed the mural created last year for Big Art Day. The artwork will be displayed during the month of April when the museum reopens and the mural will be auctioned off as a fundraising event during April and May on Facebook.
Each year, school districts across the state may submit artwork created by Pre-K through 12th grade student artists in Public and Private Schools which will be selected to be on display in the YAM Spring Exhibition at the Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin during the month of March. The Awards Celebration was held March 10th recognizing winners from elementary, middle and high school. There were 163 pieces selected this year. Gracen Shahan, a junior at San Saba High School whose drawing of cattle was chosen for this event, was given an award at the ceremony and her art will be displayed at the museum for the month of March.
