The San Saba High School boys varsity basketball team recently picked up its first few wins of the 2021-22 regular season this past week.

After the Armadillos started off the season with two straight close losses at home, San Saba traveled on November 30 to Menard High School and pulled off a 54-43 triumph for their first victory of the young season.

The Dillos would then enter the two-day Lomega Tournament and pick up back-to-back wins on December 3 in dominant fashion. Following a 70-46 win against Burnet Smoking for Jesus Ministry Christian School, the Dillos routed Cherokee High School 53-23 to advance to the championship game. Junior forward Dylan Ware was the leading scorer in the first two games for San Saba with 21 points and 15 points, respectively.

During Saturday night’s championship game against Priddy High School, it was San Saba who came out victorious as the Dillos picked up a 59-40 win against the Pirates. Dillos senior guard Reagan Mejia, who had a team-high 17 points in the championship game, was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Ware and San Saba senior guard Drake Bryant were both selected to the all-tournament team.

After San Saba plays at home on December 7 vs. Llano High School, the Dillos will take part this upcoming weekend in the Hamilton High School Tournament.

As for the Lady Dillos, who have been off since their absolutely dominant 70-25 road win against Menard back on November 30, they will return to action at home vs. Salado High School this Tuesday night before taking part in the Santo High School tournament this weekend.
