The San Saba High School varsity football team inches closer to the 2021 regular-season opener as the Armadillos will have one more preseason scrimmage this Friday night at home against San Angelo Texas Leadership Charter Academy.

Although the Dillos lost a decent amount of players to graduation from their 2020 team, plenty of guys on both sides of the ball will return for the Dillos who are ready to make an immediate impact for third-year head coach Andreas Aguirre and his tight-knit coaching staff.

Incoming junior quarterback Lance Taylor will be taking over the reins on offense for former Dillos standout quarterback Risien Shahan, while key playmakers are back for San Saba who are expected to make a huge splash in senior running back Wesley Lackey, senior wide receiver Reagan Mejia, and senior wide receiver Drake Bryant.

Two players to definitely keep an eye on defensively in the coming weeks are senior cornerback Franco Franco and junior defensive end Dylan Ware. Franco has excellent coverage skills and speed, while Ware has an elite 6’7” frame and will only continue to get better as a pass rusher throughout the season.

San Saba will have its first two games of the 2021 regular season on the road at Eldorado High School on August 27, and the following week on September 3, visiting Rogers High School. The Dillos’ first game at Rogan Field will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 10, for the annual Homecoming Game. San Saba will look to beat Mason again following a very impressive 32-0 shutout victory at the Puncherdome in 2020.
