The San Saba High School varsity football team will be in action this week as the Dillos will compete in multiple 7-on-7 scrimmages on Wednesday night down at Llano High School.

The Dillos and Jackets will play teams pooled from Brady High School, Comfort High School, Fredericksburg High School, Johnson City High School, and Mason High School.

These will be great reps for San Saba’s young core of skill players against fellow 2A schools Johnson City and Mason while also playing bigger schools like 3A Llano, 3A Brady, 3A Comfort, and 4A Fredericksburg.

San Saba varsity football under head coach Andreas Aguirre will return to pads and helmets in August with a road scrimmage on August 12 at Rio Vista High School, another scrimmage at home on August 19 vs. Comanche High School, and the regular-season opener at home on August 26 vs. Florence High School.

The Dillos will look to bounce back this season after going just 2-9 in 2021. Although the Dillos won only two games, they managed to make the playoffs again for the fourth straight season. They secured the No. 4 playoff spot in District 4 of 2A-1 with victories over Winters High School and De Leon High School. San Saba lost 56-9 to eventual 2A-1 state runner-up Hawley High School in the bi-district round of the postseason.
