The San Saba High School varsity baseball team was victorious on Tuesday, March 15, at home as the Dillos concluded non-district play with a 9-3 win vs. ISBL Austin Waves.

Despite trailing the game 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Dillos’ offense caught fire late in the game as San Saba scored three runs in the fifth and tacked on five more in the sixth inning.

As a team, San Saba tallied a whopping 15 hits and stole 10 bases. The duo of Dillos senior Weston Oliver and sophomore Lane King both had three hits, stole two bases, and drove in one run each. Dillos senior Wesley Lackey, junior Lance Taylor, and junior Tyler Johnson also had two hits and two stolen bases apiece in the come-from-behind victory last week.

On the mound, Dillos senior Reagan Mejia pitched a very solid game. Although he gave up nine hits to opposing Waves batters, Mejia got the job done when it mattered as he struck out 10 batters in 6.0 innings with just two walks allowed.

Now with a respectable 5-4 overall record during the 2022 season, the Dillos will host Center Point High School on Tuesday night in the District 29-2A opener for both teams. San Saba, which has already won more games this year prior to the start of district play than it did the entirety of the 2021 season, will then travel at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night to take on district foe Johnson City High School.
