Texas Pets Alive! is thrilled to announce that Senator Jane Nelson (R-Denton/Tarrant Counties) has introduced Senate Bill 197, which will exempt nonprofit rescue groups from paying sales tax on adoption fees.

Texas Pets Alive! is a nonprofit 501(c) (4) organization purposed to protect and further the No Kill movement in Texas to end the killing of homeless pets.

“The spirit of this law is to exempt rescue organizations as they work to find forever homes for stray animals. This is the right thing to do and will help connect more animals to people who will love and care for them,” Senator Nelson said.

“At a time when the humanpet connection is more important than ever, Senator Nelson seeks to make it more feasible for more pets to be adopted at a lower cost,” said Lorri Michel, board member of Texas Pets Alive! Michel added, “We are so excited and grateful that Senator Nelson has introduced this bill which will help rescue groups across the state and lower the cost of pet adoption fees.”
