The San Saba Garden Club's (SSGC) annual Decorate for Fall Challenge displays currently found among downtown business locations are somewhat limited in number this year because of (1) COVID-19 concerns and (2) the severe drought earlier this summer in the Texas High Plains. For the last several years, SSGC has held a competition among local businesses in order to select the most creative and attractive fall displays in downtown San Saba!

Each year, SSGC has sold pumpkins to businesses and individuals in order to raise club funds for scholarships and other civic projects. This year, however, the club was unable to obtain large numbers of pumpkins from the Levelland supplier and COVID-19 pandemic discouraged the aggressive sale campaign. Instead, club members made and sold great holiday yard signs at First Saturday Trade Day.

Even so, SSGC still wishes to recognize those businesses that actually did decorate for fall! Five businesses are awarded homemade pumpkin pies for their decorations:

• First Place – Arrowhead Bank;

• Second Place – Alamo Pecan; and

• Third Place – Capital Farm Credit, Aunt M’s Illustrated Inn and Bed and Breakfast, and Pepperbelly's.

The much appreciated other businesses that participated include the San Saba Visitor Center, Commie’s Tacos, Body by Design, Cuttin’ Up, City National Bank, Bread to Dough, and The Mercantile. If any business is omitted, it was unintentional.

Thanks to all for the great displays and also to Keep San Saba Beautiful (KSSB) for the great fall flowers and lamp post decorations! We hopefully look forward to next year’s pumpkin sale to the community and the larger "Decorate for Fall Challenge"!!!
